Invisible Threads: Portraits and Stories of Our Global Neighbors --Opening Reception

Invisible Threads: Portraits and Stories of Our Global Neighbors — Part Two brings together collaboratively created portraits and personal narratives by photographer and storyteller Julia Cumes, with lighting direction and visual collaboration by Lipe Borges. Expanding on the exhibition presented at the Cape Cod Museum of Art last year, this new installation at the Cahoon Museum of American Art features mostly new individuals and families from Cape Cod’s global community. Their stories explore migration, identity, belonging, family, resilience, and the many different paths that bring people to this place we share. Visitors can also scan QR codes to listen to the stories while experiencing the portraits.

Join Cumes and Borges for the Opening Reception on Saturday, October 3, from 1–3 pm, part of the Cahoon Museum’s Open House from 10 am–4 pm. Both will be at the museum throughout the day to meet visitors and share the work. The event is free, and advance registration is encouraged. Invisible Threads: Part Two is on view through December 20, 2026.
